This luxurious dressing room combines rich dark oak joinery with warm brass detailing, soft neutral carpet and beautifully layered lighting to create a space that feels intimate, elegant and quietly indulgent.
Floor-to-ceiling bespoke wardrobes maximise every inch of storage, while a central island, dedicated dressing table and illuminated handbag display give the room the feeling of a beautifully designed private boutique.
Behind The Design
The starting point for this room was the joinery.
Rather than treating wardrobes as purely functional storage, we wanted the cabinetry to become part of the architecture of the room. The dark stained oak runs almost seamlessly from floor to ceiling, creating a rich backdrop that immediately gives the space depth and character.
To balance the darker cabinetry, we introduced a soft cream carpet, upholstered dressing chair and pale stone top to the central island. Warm brass hardware and subtle integrated lighting add another layer without competing with the joinery.
The window is framed with full-length curtains, while traditional coving conceals the curtain track and creates a beautifully finished transition between the cabinetry and ceiling.
A sculptural statement pendant sits at the centre of the room, complemented by warm concealed LED lighting around the ceiling and within the open display cabinetry.
The result is luxurious, but still warm, comfortable and completely usable.

Designer Notes
When designing a dressing room, we always begin with how the space actually needs to work.
Before deciding on finishes, consider exactly what needs to be stored. Long hanging, short hanging, shoes, handbags, jewellery, knitwear and accessories all require different types of storage.
Once those practical requirements have been resolved, the cabinetry can be designed around them.
In a room like this, lighting also needs to be considered at the very beginning. Integrated LEDs, concealed ceiling lighting and decorative lighting should form part of the electrical plan rather than being added as an afterthought.
Finally, don't be afraid of dark cabinetry in a smaller room. When it is balanced with lighter flooring, reflective surfaces and warm layered lighting, dark joinery can actually make a dressing room feel incredibly intimate and luxurious.
Why this room works
There is a lovely balance between practicality and indulgence in this scheme.
The wardrobes provide substantial concealed storage, while the open shelving allows selected pieces to become part of the decoration. The central island makes use of otherwise empty floor space, and the dressing table creates a dedicated area for the daily routine of getting ready.
Most importantly, the room doesn't rely on decoration alone to feel luxurious.
The sense of luxury comes from the quality and scale of the joinery, the symmetry of the layout, the combination of materials and the careful layering of light.
