Fresh, inviting and quietly elegant, this luxury sage green dining room combines classic detailing with the relaxed character of coastal-inspired interiors.
Soft sage green introduces just enough colour to the warm neutral palette, while natural timber, textured upholstery and softly distressed finishes give the room warmth and depth. A generous window seat makes the most of the beautiful bay window, creating a dining space that feels as comfortable for everyday living as it does for entertaining.
The result is a light-filled dining room that feels refined without being formal and timeless without feeling predictable.
Behind The Design
The starting point for this dining room was the beautiful bay window and built-in window seat.
Rather than treating it simply as an architectural feature, we used it to introduce the room's defining colour. Sage green Roman blinds frame the windows, while the upholstered window seat continues the same soft green palette and creates an inviting place to sit beyond the dining table.
A round pedestal dining table sits at the centre of the room, allowing the eye to move easily around the space while softening the stronger lines of the windows, wall panelling and sideboard.
Upholstered dining chairs in a warm ivory fabric bring comfort and softness, with traditional nailhead detailing adding a subtle tailored finish.
On the walls, classic framed panelling provides architectural character without overpowering the room. Keeping the walls and woodwork within a warm off-white palette allows the green and natural timber tones to become the focus.
The distressed timber sideboard and oversized round mirror create a beautifully balanced focal point opposite the window. A pair of ceramic lamps adds symmetry and a warm pool of light in the evening, while the statement chandelier above the table brings scale and a touch of understated glamour.
White orchids, soft green tableware and simple decorative pieces complete the room without making it feel overly styled.

Designer Notes
Sage green works particularly well in a dining room because it introduces colour without dominating the space. Here, we’ve treated it almost as a neutral.
Rather than repeating the green across every surface, it is concentrated around the bay window and picked up again through the tableware and smaller styling details. This creates a connection across the room while allowing the warm ivory walls and natural timber to keep the overall scheme light.
Texture is equally important. The woven Roman blinds, upholstered dining chairs, distressed timber furniture, natural oak flooring and carved mirror frame prevent the neutral elements from feeling flat. Although the palette is restrained, every surface brings something slightly different.
The round table is also an important part of the design. Its shape encourages conversation, improves movement through the room and provides a softer counterpoint to the architectural lines of the wall panelling and bay window.
Finally, symmetry around the sideboard creates a sense of calm and order. The matching lamps frame the oversized mirror and give the room a strong secondary focal point beyond the dining table.
Why this room works
This dining room strikes the balance between polished and relaxed.
There is enough structure to make the room feel beautifully finished, from the framed wall panelling and symmetrical sideboard styling to the statement chandelier, but nothing feels overly formal.
The sage green gives the room personality while remaining soft enough to live with for years. It works naturally alongside warm whites, ivory upholstery and pale timber, creating a palette that can easily evolve with different accessories and seasonal styling.
The window seat is both beautiful and practical. It turns an architectural feature into usable space while making the dining room feel more connected to the garden beyond.
Most importantly, this is a room designed to be used.
The generous round table encourages people to gather, the upholstered chairs make long dinners comfortable, and the window seat creates somewhere to linger with a coffee or a glass of wine.
It feels elegant enough for entertaining, but relaxed enough for everyday family life.
